RinCon is almost here!

RinCon is almost here!

What?  You haven’t gotten your badge yet?  Make sure you do so by the end of this Sunday (9/27)!  Online sales will be closing at that point, to give us enough time to prepare badges and registration materials.  Any badge purchases made between now and Sunday will be uploaded to schedule.com, our scheduling site, in the evening.  At that point, you’ll get an email with information on how to get your account set up, so then you can sign up for games.  When you set yourself up in sched.com, PLEASE be sure that you use the same email that you used to purchase your badge; that’s the only way the system will recognize you.  Badges WILL be available for purchase onsite at RinCon as well, but if you buy before Sunday evening, you’ll be able to reserve yourself a seat in your favorite games ahead of time; otherwise, you’ll have to wait until you’re onsite to be able to sign up.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO AT RINCON?
There are so many options for great games to play!  But don’t forget about the special events as well: we’ve got panels and presentations by our special guests, a game show run by our very own John Morgan, live escape rooms, the annual murder mystery event, Envoy tournaments that can send you to RageCon or GENCON, Blood on the Clocktower sessions every two hours, the Paint ‘n’ Take area where you can try your hand at painting a minifig, and open gaming (you can bring your own, or check out something from our library).  And don’t forget the eegee’s party at 10:00PM Saturday, or the Artemis spaceship bridge simulator missions blasting off all weekend long, or the UnPub event on Sunday at 9AM – 1PM, where you can help board game designers playtest and put the final polish on their latest creations.

WHAT IS THERE TO BUY AT RINCON?
Make sure you set aside some time to check out the vendors!  And also our newest addition, the RinCon Shelf of Shame Shop.  Instead of a flea market event this year, individual sellers looking to rehome games from their personal collections will be featured for 2-hour slots throughout the weekend, so check back on the regular to see what everyone’s got on offer!  And there are still timeslots available, if you’ve got some games that you want to get off your shelf to make room for, what else, MORE GAMES FROM THE VENDORS!

WHAT CAN I WIN AT RINCON?
We’ve got all kinds of ways for you to go home with great prizes!  There are raffles all weekend long, with prizes donated by the vendors, special guests, game designers and artists, and community donors.  The Envoy tournaments and tournaments run by community members all have prize support (and bragging rights, too!)  We’ve also got the Play-to-Win area next to the board games library, where anyone who checks out and plays a game is entered to win that game at the end of the convention.  And there will be a special drawing only for participants in the UnPub event on Sunday, as well as ones for each day at the Indie RPG Arcade, where you can play some of the best RPGs from indie publishers.  Some game sessions also have giveaways from the GM or the game publisher – more ways to win!  And last but not least, everyone will be assigned at random to the blue team (TEAM MYTH) or the red team (TEAM LEGEND).  Win games or male donations to the Community Food Bank of Southern AZ to win points for your team.  At the end of RinCon, only members of the winning team will be eligible to win a prize package, so don’t forget to bring non-perishable foods or personal care items for donation!

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO RINCON?

Prioritize self-care! It’s important to make sure you’re taking care of yourself at a weekend-long event. Here are some things you don’t want to forget:

  • Items to manage your own needs:
    • A water bottle
    • An extra layer of clothing or a blanket (it gets chilly in the rooms)
    • Any medications you might need
    • Comfort seating like lumbar support or cushions
    • Headphones if you need them
    • Mobility devices (even ones you use infrequently – the conference center is large and spread out)
    • Comfy shoes (ditto)
    • A handheld fan if you tend to overheat
    • Glasses (the print size on game materials can be obnoxiously small)
  • Gaming supplies (dice + tray, writing implements + paper, games you want to get to the table)
  • A small rechargeable clip light/book light, if you have one – the overhead lighting is not fantastic, especially in the main gaming hall, and it might help you and your fellow gamers to see better.
  • Your sense of fun and excitement to play games together!
